Of course, it is always advisable to try out all the other home remedies that you may come across because it may be that simple. Depending on the causative agent of your snoring, the way to tackle it will be different from one individual to the other. If you are not able to understand your snoring enough, you are always advised to seek medical attention. Because it is always good to know the exact solution if it is not something that can be easily identified.
Apart from Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), all other medical remedies involve some form of surgery. That is why medical options are always taken as the last of the snoring remedies. In comparison to weight reduction, use of devices and stopping the use of alcohol and sedatives, medical remedies are the most expensive and complex of them all. The CPAP, for example, will involve the installation and use of a machine at your bedside in your sleep. Through a mask that you will be required to wear every time you sleep, the machine blows air into your windpipe to keep your airway open. This air is usually pressurized for this purpose. This method will be applicable to those who have collapsible air passages that blocks air flow during breathing. This method is applied if there is no other way of keeping the airway open.
There are different surgical procedures that can be used as snoring remedies. The basic principle behind these surgeries is to correct any deformities that cause any air blockage. Or increasing the size of the airway by removal of any extra tissue that may be blocking it. One of these procedures is Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP). The UPPP is always used when the cause of your snoring is extra tissues in your mouth region. In this procedure, all the excess soft tissue in your mouth, excluding the tongue, is removed. This may include the uvula, some part of your soft palate, adenoids, tonsils and any other excess tissue. Also using the same principle is Uvulopalatoplasty (UP). In fact, this is the same procedure only that in this case it is done using laser beams.
If your snoring is as a result of vibration of the soft palate, the doctor may decide to do a soft palate implant as a remedy. In this case, some artificial material is pumped into your palate to make it stiffer and hence reduce the vibrations. Radiofrequency ablation is the other alternative to this as it also works by stiffening the palate to reduce vibrations.
